defo not illegal
all it does is erase the software that the networks put on them to stop you using any network sim cards in them. it could affect your warranty on the phone but most repair centres dont check for this should your phone have to be repaired

guess i better change my Sig now then.  Its legal, but be careful type in the wrong code and you have to flash your fone to get it unblocked.

No you enter a contract for their service, not for the phone itself.
For example you can use the sim card in other phones which sends a different IMEI to the network, but it doesnt bother them.
I assure you its totally legal.
All it does is remove SIM restrictions on the phone. They can be turned back on easily.

Where on earth you get that from?
Yes if you try entering the master code incorrectly about 10 times it will probably block all SIM's, but if its entered incorrectly a few times all the phone does is restarts.

if you you unlock the phone your not breaching the contract. you will still be paying the monthly charge to your service provider. written into your contract it states that the network can take back the phone should you not pay your bills, but this never happens as a 2nd hand phone is no use to them. if it was illegal then they could also take you to court should you damage the phone. thankfully this is not the case

most mobile phones are a severl hundred pounds, the provider subisdises this greatly in return for you being in a contract with them for a set period

the phone is your property to keep. this is obvious because when u cancel a contract, u keep the phone. it is not a loan. the phone couldn care less wot u do with the phone, as long as u use hte contract their happy!
