Im Thinking of changing my Corsa Gsi Front Brakes,to 2.0 16v brakes off a cavalier Sri/Gsi was wondering as well as the calipers,discs and pads what else i need to do the job?

any help wuld be great???

Brake fluid - dot4 should do the trick, a bleed kit/rubber hose&jam jar. Copper Grease to lube everything up nicely. Does your car run ABS? If so I though you had to be carefull upgrading with abs as it causes problems?

Your brakes on the gsi are 256mm x 21 on a cav 2.0 16v they are 256 x 24, you would be better going for a gsi cav 288mm disc and caliper set or the veccy v6 288mm setup...

I disagree. If these are the ATE type calipers as fitted to Astra GTE's, these are much better than the stock 256mm discs fitted to GSi's and Sports. Much less fade and more ascertive pedal feel.

i just fitted 2l brakes, they are a massive step up from the corsa sport calipers i had on before, they are a bit too spongy but bloody hell they dont half stop fast. and mine are still bedding in, not all the pad is making contact with the discs at the mo, only done about 50 miles on them.

no probs atall with abs cos the speed sensors are on any brake components, they are in the hub assembly.

as for the guide, look in the haynes manual under changing brakes, they are a direct fit, very easy to do, took me an hour to do both sides, and bleed but i spent ages trying to get one of the discs off cos i rounded off the head to the screw which holds the disc onto the hub, lol.

so all u basically need is bleed kit/rubber hose&jam jar,brake fluid, copper grease,calipers,pads and the discs and it should be the perfect fit?

so the axle WILL NOT be too small for a set of cav gsi discs?

I've got a set of Astra 2.0 16v Gsi brakes and they fitted perfectly i've got braided hoses as well dont really know if it making a huge difference though i will find out in February

Got my calipers, disks and pads for £30, with load of milage left, in good nick too. A massive improvement on my 1.2 8v brakes.

you might as well get new disks, but the calipers are fine just check the pison bores and the rubber seals you can get a kit from vauxhall to totally overhall the caliper its only cheap to buy, makes them like new

TBH m8 the astra gsi discs and pads are shit, got them on mine and they fade really badly, save up you cash and go for the veccy V6 upgrade.

I think they are a good setup, nice pedal feel, good stoping power. A good upgrade for me, I would say it would be a worth while upgrade for 1.6 16v brakes.

my piston seals were £19 for 4 rubber rings which i thought was a rip off

Ive read quite a few opinions over the last few months about brake upgrades, and i still dont know who to believe. Some say V6 gives a really spongy feel, others say it feels fine and stops really well. Both are just bolt on upgrades, but the V6 ones might need at least 15" alloys as they are a bit bigger. Also, the V6 ones do look better behind bigger wheels. Im trying to make my mind up which i should get too, so any more info appreciated!
