Thing is you do that and you set a precedent for people getting away with twatting the line judges all the time.

You'll have people coming out with all kinds of bullshit excuses.

In any sport you hit out at a ref and you're going to be in trouble and should be removed from play.

Not surprised at the crowd, they paid for a final and didnt get a full one because one guy pulled a Ben G.

FLOL

Didn't ThinTim get DQ'd for smashing someone once? Don't think it was a Wimbledon Final though

Twatted a ball that wasn't in play and it hit a ball boy/girl at the net iirc.

Nalbandian had to be DQ'd for that, accidental or not you can't go lashing out at officials.

Harsh punishment imo, he never intentionally hurt the guy.

Nothing more than silly and a rush of blood to the head.

What should the alternative have been?

Rush of blood or not he must have known the judge would get hurt, did he think the boards were made from solid steel and fixed into the ground or something?

I don't think he realised the judge was there to be honest.

Tennis has moved well past disqualifying people for aggressive reactions, it's no longer an upper class lawn tennis sport it is a worldwide globally participated competitive sport at the cutting edge of introducing technology.

A short break, an apology and a token fine afterwards would have been more than sufficient. The crowd reaction said it all.
