Has she had a cartilage removed? I find it amazing the doctor has simply said nothing can be done as Meniscal Tears are really common and easily treated

I don't think it's the exercising bit, I think the exercises build up the supporting muscles so take the weight off the actual joint.

Well my girlfriends knees grind like fuck when she bends her legs and there is times when she has been in pain because of them.
Doctor told her there is nothing that can be done because it has something to do with the cartilage.
I can only imagine doing a lot of leg exercises will make it worse.

No idea around exercises etc but I used to get quite bad pain in my knees when I first started running. Found glucosamine helped a lot, may be worth a try if you haven't already

It's not like I get pain walking about or anything, just that if I bend down or want to squat to do something low down they crack and then they hurt, standing up is a challenge.

if its the joint then dont put any load on it

Leg press may be a better alternative to squats as you have more control over the movement

Squats? Should work up the muscles around you legs and hopefully aid them.

Funny that my knee surgeon seemed to think that cycling was the best physical activity to pursue for fitness and to build up the correct muscle groups following my injury. Swimming is apparently the worst if you suffer from ligament trouble as in offers no resistance

Cant see what use a push bike will do on your fucked knees other than make them worse if you think cycling will help them.

I have a fucked knee too, theres a bit missing in my knee and every time I bend my leg my knee goes round too the side. Sounds painful but its not that sore tbh.

Does effect me in general though, sometimes it will decide to go to the side when I'm walking and he hit the deck straight away , can't crouch, can't run.

Had to quit my job too earlier in year due to not being able to climb ladders properly.

I've found swimming to be a great help though, swimming with just my arms but its still exercise. Walking in the pool is very good too.

My knees sound like a cement mixer as well :(

I put it down to the amount of football I've played on dodgy surfaces, probably with the wrong footwear.

I'm actually making an effort with the bike this time but I still get terrible burn in my thighs, I paid attention tonight, a whole 200 metres before I wanted to get off. My fitness is a disgrace.

My knees are both shot but I've taken up Mountain biking recently and it has made a massive difference

My mate take cod liver oil tablets and all sorts for his knees! Click everytime he bends down!

give up mate, start doing your wheels sat on a chair in preparation for your wheel chair

I've got the knees of a 90 year old arthritic paraplegic. Hurts if I'm down washing the wheels on a car and try to stand up for instance.

What is best to use in a standard gym? Machine preferably, I'm too fat to stand at the free weights yet.
