the lightning works like the traffic shots of the light trails going past, because it is an intense bright peice of light the camera will pic it up while the shutter is open

in low light at night the camera can use what little light is availible, when light levels are low a longer shutter speed is needed to take all the light in so the subject is exposed correctly

ah fair enough, so how does the 30sec exposure work then, as everything i've read about is in tiny fractions of time, nothing that long

if that makes sense :look:

your right in a way

exposure is light, and shutter speed is obviously how long the shutter is open

longer the shutter is open = more light is let in to the sensor

sorry as im a bit new to this

but i thought exposure was more down to light, whilst shutter speed is what it says on the tin basically

Leaves the shutter open for 30mins max. You'll need a remote to trip the shutter before the 30min as you don't want to be touching the camera.

Leaves the shutter open. Think 30mins is the max.

30 sec exposure...

Put it on bulb mode (Leave shutter open for longer periods of time) But only got a really long exposure of that house ^. As I didn't point the cam in the right direction.

During a lightening storm I would set up the tripod and put the shutter in bulb mode and leave it for 15-20mins.

and fireworks I suppose

could you set a long exposure and just hit the shutter button just before you think its going to go off? the camera will see the light like aq traffic shot

If you get what I mean...
