I dont think you will be disapointed. Also forgot to say, the motor even on the standard lens is alot quicker than the nikon and canon standard lenses. You only might be disapointed with the flash at close range, you will find the lens causes a shadow to be cast over the subject.

Is there any guides about to using a slr camera or is it just a case of practising and learning for yourself? Will the manual help alot? cheers

Great camera. I swear its 300 in store though! I know the 300 is 400 quid, at only 50-100 more you get more megapixels but not much more. Only really matters if you are planning on blowing up your photos for larger prints. They are good though, unlike the nikon and canon entry level slrs they include image stabiliser in the body itself so you dont have to spend the extra on lenses with the feature built in. They also include liveview which the 400d doesnt have, not sure about nikons, but also its fitted on hinges so you can move it about to suit the angle of your photo. One thing I dont rate is the standard flash, its just crap. For those that dont know sony bought out minolta a couple of years ago so dont doubt the quality.

not really clued up on cameras if im honest but most people go for cannon eos400 or nikon d40/d60

but if you do go for the one you linked you can get it cheaper
