Can I get Windows 8.1 genuine and cheaper?

I can’t believe amazon haven’t cottoned on to this yet? They are super sharp on anything that’s illegal like this! Some of the sellers have been selling these keys for years!

No, paying someone to supply a dodgy product key so you can install Windows on the cheap is essentially theft. It's certainly fraud on the part of the seller.

When you buy a license key, you're not paying for a series of letters and numbers so you can install the software, you're paying for the right to use that software. The cheapest legitimate license direct from Amazon is £99.99 (16% off RRP):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Windows-Home-English-International-Download/dp/B012U8Y2BM/ref=sr_1_1_twi_sof_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1506681401&sr=8-1&keywords=windows+10+home

I imagine the instructions from the dodgy seller will include the download of a utility to bypass the regular activation checks - this will almost certainly be riddled with some sort of malware, or keylogger or whatever - the effects of which may not become apparent for quite some time.

If you do decide you're okay with stealing Windows, definitely don't download anything the seller recommends you to. However, if you want to steal Windows, you don't have to pay anyone £12 to do so!

I see your point, worth it for the price if it last a couple of years?

Anyone can generate a Windows 10 key that will "work" - but you won't be correctly licensed. It says in the listing that no COA (Certificate of Authenticity) is provided. You will almost certainly find your Windows license is deactivated at some point in the future.

I looked at the reviews on Amazon and apart from the odd person that said it was more complicated than they thought, they’ve all seemed to work. All verified purchases too and Amazon is very efficient shutting down traders punting dodgy licenses and software?

Ok, another angle - if I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO file from the Microsoft website, then buy this from Amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B071LPNZY4/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1506424551&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=windows+10+home&dpPl=1&dpID=41h6xZlyV-L&ref=plSrch

Will it work?

Don't do this - it clearly isn't a legitimate Windows 10 license being hawked by that fella.

Due to more and more software companies withdrawing support for vista based installs, what are my cheapest options for upgrading to Windows 8? Or other more recommended windows platforms..?
