I looked around for ages when getting a second phone. Didn't want second hand for the same reasons as you, you don't know what you are buying I.e faulty or a contract not paid up etc

Went with a iPhone 5S in the end. Cost £150 off the giffgaff website.

You've tried a different cable, plug and socket?

I have an 8x magnifier tool at work and used that with LED lighting to see some crap in there... all removed and still absolutely nothing :(

I noticed this on Apple's website...

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/iphone/repair/service/pricing

Other damage (out-of-warranty) iPhone 6 £276.44

Which is quite steep! I guess I'll get most of it back (planning to only keep for another year or so) but maybe it's just better off buying a secondhand one. Then again, you don't know what you're getting again. Is that price worth it for new (well, refurb) screen, port and battery? Maybe.

Look up inside the charge port and check there is no paper, dust stuck in it.. Very common!

iPhone died this morning and can't it back on again. It'd been getting harder to charge for a while, I had cleaned out the port and tried different cables etc. and it would eventually always come back (but very temperamental) however not this time it seems.

Now I'm wondering if I take this to Apple (it's a 2.5 year old iPhone 6 not under warranty) what are they going to do? Offer me an out of warranty replacement? If so how much is this? I wouldn't mind actually because the battery's knackered too!

Problem is it's got a small crack in the front, really is tiny and doesn't go over the screen at all but if they deem this to be a screen replacement as well, I'm sure they'll charge me more?

Basically I'm going to book an appointment soon but wondering what's going to happen so I'm at least prepared.

Chars.
