Sounds ideal.

I'll save the ISO to DVD and install from there.

Would I then format the HDD and install from clean from DVD?

Read the link in Doms email, print it out if needs be, it has all the steps to follow.

Reinstall a fresh copy of XP then upgrade to W8.

Edit - Apparently you can do a clean install of W8 Upgrade - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/clean-install-windows-8-upgrade.htm

Yep, same as Ed, a nice format every now and again is good.

Would love to do a clean install but I'd have to buy the full package and I'm a cheap skate.

Given the opportunity, I'd do a format over an upgrade. The registry does get a little messy over time as do a few other things.

no need to unplug.... if your upgrading.

If your going to format, then just need to make sure you select the right drive to format, i.e capacity and make etc?

I have a 2nd HDD installed via SATA where I store all my photos etc. Should I unplug this before I upgrade or just leave it plugged in?
