Probably because youtube originally didn't support HTML5 (Flash/FLV based only), so the app was created to allow access to the MP4 streams (which originally had restricted access to a select few mobile apps; but now, along with WebM streams, are used for the HTML5 player).

My iPad wasnt jailbroken until now and it did it.

I find the youtube app easier to use that the browser based version but it takes much longer to load vids which gets frustrating.

Mines does it too because its jailbusted but rarely. All i do is minimise the page (bottom right of the screen) and it turns itself off. Turn safari back on and its fine.

It's the same with the Stocks and the Weather app, they are just relics from the original iPhone that they haven't bothered to scrap. I guess the same could even be said about the maps app too?

That's miles better, thanks for that.

The YouTube app on the iPhone is pretty poor IMO. It also defeats the object in having an App Store if it comes pre-loaded with junk.

I've disabled the app in favor of using the website by:

Click "Settings" then "General" then "Restrictions" then enter your passcode, then under "Allow" simply click the desired App "Off" (in this case YouTube).

Ah well, seems I'll just have to wait and see if apple sort it when the new os comes out. Cheers, sorta glad it's not just me!

Mine does it too. Just leave Safari open for a mion, then it realises its been a dick and sorts itsself out.

Does it on normal web pages also sometimes.

Latest update is shit

I get this too. Just have to force quit safari and reopen it.

Is it jailbreaked?

Whenever I view a YouTube link that someone has posted on here there is a big White box across the screen when I open safari again. You can still see the top and bottom of the page and scroll that up and down but the middle is blank Any idea what causes this, I'm on the latest os. The links open the YouTube app rather than running in safari.
