theres an easier way to do this, is your surround amp able to take the hdmi from the xbox in? if so just use that it sends picture and dolby digital 5.1 through the hdmi.

if the surround amp does not have a hdmi input you can still use hdmi to the tv and use optical to the surround amp with one of these leads

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Official-XBOX-360-HDMI-Cable-Optical-Audio-Dongle_W0QQitemZ180319428131QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_JN?hash=item180319428131&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

also i doubt your tv will accept a 1080p signal through componant cables as most will not so you will need to set it to 1080i.

easiest soloution would be xbox to hdmi splitter to tv and plug watever else needs to go into the splitter box through hdmi.

when you buy a splitter box make sure you get one that auto selects rather than manualy pressing a switch, and no dont ask the people in currys they are shit lol.

would have helped if you posted make and model of your tv and av system.

some of these from

back of the tv there will be an output

then you find the TV input on the back of the amp like so (ish)

when i flick the switch it dosent show up on AV1, when its on normal tv button it does?

you need to make sure the switch on the cable is set to hd and then go on the menu on the xbox itsself and set to 1080p, widescreen, 60hz etc

Doent your tv have component inputs. i.e. red green and blue rca's???? if so connect your xbox to here using rgb cable, then an optical cable from the xbox to the surround sound for the 5.1 audio.

I'm not too sure about the HDMI from xbox to surround sound though, hasnt that got to be straight to the TV?

I have seen those 3 way adapters on play. So if i was to order that and another hdmi cable, and have one running from xbox to adapter which is pluged into the cinema system(dvd bit) and then the other one linked to the tv it would be all good? Like a triangle i guess?

DannyB

I'm sure you could get a HDMI adapter, one that runs both HDMI cables into 1, if you get what I mean.

ahh right, do you have to purchase these from a place like play?
Also what do i connect my xbox to, as the sky box is taking up the only Scart point on the tv?

You need audio cables to go from the surround sound to either the TV or sky box.
