Especially as you only get broadband in a 3G area which is limiting.

Uni has Wifi everywhere. Im not sure how I would get on with a smaller screen, i like to have as big a screen as possible so I can spread docs out all over the screen, hate flicking between windows

Because £25x24 = £600 and the minis cost £300.

Danny, suggestion if youre at uni... what about a Dell mini Inspiron with a mobile broadband connection? Free laptop, broadband costs £25 a mth for 24 mths

Just a suggestion :)

They go through a transformer so the voltage is irrelevant. In the unlikely event it is a problem, you can just get a UK charger and you'll be away. By far the biggest problem of ordering from the USA is the fact you'll get raped on VAT and import tax as soon as they try to deliver it to you...

Mines got a 13.3" screen with a res of 1280X800 which is pretty decent. I get on quite well with a friends Vaio with the same setup.

Meh, would rather not the hassle, plus the import tax they may or may not decide to charge me, had that issue before buying something in from AUS

Keyboard has 3 keys different I think, adaptor will plug into a uk socket with a travel adapter, you can get both a uk keyboard and adapter though.

Depends how much you would be saving, although things like that don't bother me.

Will ones from America work over here, what with the differences in voltage and plug sockets etc?

The one you got ed has a proper small screen, ive got 14.5" or something now, definetly wouldnt want to go smaller I dont think, but atm im limited to 1024x768 resolution so that doesnt help

I bought a brand new inspiron cheap from america on ebay a couple of years ago.

I now have 3 of them, because one was broken and one went on fire :o

I just bought this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=200263319770

Seems a hell of a lot cheaper than what Dell would have it sold as :)

They are normally always the same price, they just make it up from different 'deals'

I'd personally look for a bargain brand new one on ebay.

Hmm the Studio 17's are too much money and they come with gfx cards etc, I have a 360 for gaming so will leave them, might look at the next few days though see if the Inspirons have money off

All that info on their site somewhere or you got a link?

edit - found it on the main page

They've got 10 days of deals on at the moment. Their Studio 17 laptop is on offer today and the Studio 15 and XPS M1530 laptops are on offer tomorrow.

Looking to upgrade, out of the components game for a little while now. Is there a fancy new processor coming out soon that will render all current ones a little obsolete therefore slicing the price down? Should I wait till after Christmas or jump in now? Im only looking for something which is moderatly powerful for browsing, watching vids and general study work
