quote: there will still be compatibility issues though with the psx emulation system, some games will display incorrectly/duff sound/not work... again to be resolved with downloadable updates via sony, as MS originally did for the 360...

you can download old Nes/Snes games online with the Wii. Think they're a few quid each.

he's right in a way. Even now some games still don't work. New ones are being added to the list all the time though and it's a lot better than what it was

quote:  The OS is called longhorn for a start. The reason the old games won't be compatible is the fact that it's not just a pc anymore. It uses IBM PowerPC architecture. Its like trying to use a windows program on a mac. Some games will be recomplied for the 360 but that isn't really backwards compatible. It would be vaguely possible that a non-ms emulator could be developed, but doubtfull and theres always the issue of how fast it would run. And would anyone be willing to take on the task.

quote: It emulates them like i said above. Both xbox and ps3 use different architectures from the previous incarnations. The sony team have decided to emulate a psx and ps2 but ms for some reason aren't taking that option.

quote: You are correct PS3 will be able to play PS2 and PS1 games hence the reason why i think the Playstation will be a more popular choice for parents to buy their children... Also The Xbox 360 will have a built in harddrive iirc?? maybe possible to get some software to download and install to the 360 to allow it to recognise old Xbox games?? We will have to wait and see until Microsoft have released more details because it seams to me that they are being very secretive about this console

haha!!! blatently it would of been simple to do, but instead Microsoft are thinking about cashing in - by making people go and buy copies of the games they already have. Genius.

The backwards compatability isn't exactly backwards compatible. |
