marv you just missed a great deal at pc world.... they were doing a belkin 54g wireless router and a pcmcia card for the laptop as one kit... 60 notes. picked one up for my laptop and it works a treat.

not sure if they're still doing it now as it was advertised as a 7 day deal but it's worth a shot. I'd recommend this belkin kit.

Fair enough, should be fine then, I thought BT gave out USB only modem. Any wireless router should be fine :)

modem has 2 different cables

a usb one or an ethernet cable (bit larger then fone cable end) rj45 i think

Marv you want something like this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/netgear_wireless.html <~~ top one.

Basically with something like that you can get shot of the crud BT adsl adapter. With the BT usb adapter you would need the computer it was connected to turned on whenever you wanted net access from another pc. It has 4 regular network ports, built in firewall etc.

Just found this on Scan's website, slightly cheaper than PC World (although that's usually not too hard):

http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=64206

Supports 802.11g (2.4GHz & 54Mbps), and already comes with its own access-card...

the 802.11g one in PC WORLD is 100 quid and the cards are 50 each, not sure on make as didnt pay too much attention

www.ebuyer.com

802.11g is the new wireless standard, running at 54mbps. You wont ever see it that fast, but its a hell of an improvement on 802.11b (11mbps)
