premium diesel only helps to clean dirty engines. The small increase in cetane rating wont do anything significant.

It needs to be about 8p/litre cheaper to make a difference with your 'mileage improvements'

You probably filled up 20 miles sooner on the standard stuff, not a good test at all.

I get 550 average from standard diesel and 570 average from premium

The actual 'fuel' content of diesel and petrol is very tightly controlled and regulated so the 'special' fuels simply contain additives (detergent octane/cetane boosters and lubricants).. The scientific evidence to backup the benefits of these fuels is pretty weak.

If anything, higher calorific value and more cetanes.

I can't tell any difference. Had used it in my vrs then switched back to normal shell diesel.

Yeah does my head in too. I can't believe it actually makes massive (if any) difference in terms of fuel economy or power, I'm really only interested in using it if it actually helps with longevity of the engine/turbos/stops soot etc etc

Don't know but that BP advert where that smug voiceover guy is like 'ooooh you're dragging an anchor behind you' can utterly do one, at best exaggeration at worst a complete lie.

Is there actually any benefit in using shell premium diesel ? Or is it just snake oil ? |
