I bought a 2004 R53 in September and it has been great; no issues so far. I bought mine with the AeroKit, full leather and electric everything, Sat Nav (so doesn't have the stupid speedo gauge in the middle). 65,000miles and I gave £2,700 for it. Only thing it has cost me so far is a service.

I'd say at that age both can potentially suffer from expensive problems. Get what you prefer!

I wouldn't say Minis are riddled with problems, all depends on which one you're looking at. Can't go too far wrong with a face-lift R53 (late 2004-2006). I had a 2005 Cooper S, never had any issues with it. Had a cat back exhaust, 15% pulley, derestricted airbox, couple of suspension mods. I'd say it was just as fast as my BMW 130i I own now. I'd definitely choose one again over a 182. I've never owned a Clio, but I have sat in a few, and I would much rather be in a Mini. Track car or not, it's a much nicer interior, built better, and the supercharger sounds amazing

All the new mini range suffer from weak gearboxes, clutches and water leaks in to the bottom boot battery compartment.
They are querky and fun to drive,go quite well but i would have the renault even though not a fan of the french cars much.

Seriously thinking about buying one, very cheap for what u get. But I know they are riddled with problems. It's only going to be a weekend car as I now have a tracker on my works van. So is someone going to tell me to get a 182 over a mini
