If there is no lug on the end then there is a chance that box came of a Nova, because they foul the tie bar so people grind it off

Alot of the time you won't find any numbers on the gearboxes.

So you might need to remove the end plate and count the number off teeth on the 5th gear.

You see that lug sticking out at the bottom left corner, should tell you if its close or wide ratio (f16c/f16w) and then followed by numbers that indicate the final drive 3.74 for example

Try and get an F16c as that is the most suitable box for that engine.

It will say on the box what F16 it is.Think it will be underneath the gear selector.

What car is the 1.8 8v in??

F18 will make acceleration much worse

They're only good for a turbo'd car imo

Im running an f16 at the moment but prefered it when i had an f18 seemed better for when on the motorway with the longer ratios.

Depends what F18 you can get as they done a WR and CR box.

F20 is best suited to the XE.Even an F18c won't be as quick off the mark as 1st,2nd and possibly 3rd are taller gears than the F20.

F16C also has the same ratios as an F20 so don't go looking for 1 thinking the car will be quicker.
