They didn't take it to Fiat for its 1st service anyway which doesn't bother me.

I literally read the whole service book last night. 18k mile services, not based on year although should have an annual check which only involves oil change every 2 years. Atleast I can be sure the service history hasn't caused my latest issue.

They do like to send letters out telling you your car has no MOT or needs servicing. As said, they don't even need to take it to a main Fiat dealer to get it done. Saying that, the local Perrys Alfa franchise near me is pretty reasonably priced, plus they do a good job.

Hi-jack once more.

Just checked my book. Cambelt 4 years for short journeys (mines not) or 5 years. Plus not annual service, just mileage.

Ed im almost certain it's chain! Been a few months since I left Fiat/Alfa though

Well mine is 1.4 16v petrol with cambelt, so wouldn't apply.

I just checked my service book.

1st service upon deliver - 30.04.2007.
2nd service - 11.05.09 - 19,267.
3rd service - 12.02.10 - 31,293.

:( so theoretically it doesn't have a FSH. Fucking tight owners, they'd have been contacted by Fiat dealership about the service too, surely.

Anyway Ed, shouldn't hi-jack your thread

The MiTo didn't even want a service till 23k or 2 years.

I fucked that off and had it done at a year old

My missed a service. 17,000 miles or 1 year. It went about 2 years till it got to 17,000. I only realised once I had done the deal and got home.

I hope that isn't the cause of my latest troubles.

It's to do with warranty, manufacturers were saying 40000 miles and old codgers were taking 25 years to do it, so the belt would perish and snap, thus forcing a warranty engine on an old car out of good will.

If they stipulate 4 years, or 5, people will a) not end up never buying a car from the same manufacturer and b) spend more money at the dealer because they're too thick to realise that even if the car is under warranty it doesn't need to be serviced by a main agent using genuine parts.

Some searching suggests it's chain driven. I shall investigate further tomorrow at the garage...

Fiatforum is about the worst place for Internet hypochondriacs. I'll check it's not a chain driven engine, but I'm sure they wouldn't have it as a service item at this point if it was. Wikipedia is no help either.

Would still like the Clio though, even with it's Internet rep.

1.3 diesel in the Punto? Thought it was near on the same as the 1.3 CDTi Corsa = chain.

If it's belt Ed, get it changed.

My car is on 43k, and 4 years old in April. Was going to get the cambelt done in February when next MOT and service was due.

It seemed the timing jumped Monday before Christmas, low compression on cylinders 2 & 3. The car is currently at Fiat having the head removed to find out what is going on. Boreoscope showed not a lot. Re-timed which brought compression up but still nothing. No warranty.

Don't go on FiatForum.com. You'll only get depressed

4 years seems to be quite short, these days generally they can go from 7 to 10 years. 10 years ago and before they were much shorter intervals but times and materials get better all the time

my zafira 1.8 one is 10 years or 100k where as 10 years ago on the ecotec engines they were 40k or 4 years.

but if thats what the book says then id have it done tbh

Depends on what kind of use the car has had.

Does anyone else think 4 years is a bit quick for the timing belt needing to be changed? The manual says 4 years, 5 years or 72,000 miles. I'm on 51,000 and only do about 6000 a year. It doesn't give any more information apart from that which is frustrating. Wouldn't forgive myself if it let go though :|
