On the saxo i had, sometimes when it was cold you would hear a slight tick from the injectors as they are quite noisy on the saxos

Probably just noisy lifters, untill it starts doing it all the time i shouldnt worry about it too much!

sounds like its from the top of the engine although i cant be sure, and it doesnt really sound like any rattling trim although i'll try removing heat shield to see if it goes cheers

top or bottom of engine?

Sounds like hydraulic lifters... but i'm not sure what type of noise a corsa makes when its away to stall :/ PARP, cluck, fart

Did you get the water pump changed when you got the belt done. This might be the case as i have seen this knock/click before until the engine heats up.

if i give the throttle a little blip it goes away for a few seconds then when it gets back to idle it comes back

well a rattle then, it sounds slightly like the noise the engine makes when your about to stall but much fainter

You sure its knocking.. Knocking is caused by worn big end or main bearings and if anything it will get worse when warm and louder when you rev.

cheers, didnt think it would be something easy to work out
by the time i get to a garage its usually stopped !

hard to diagnose over the net

Take it to a garage you trust.

Could be something simple like a loose part vibrating (heat shield etc)....

Noisey injectors
'Dry' Hydraulic Lifters
Fecked big end bearings (not normally on idle and you'd hear it under load)

lots of things, immpossible to guess.

my saxo has developed a very slight engine knock/rattle on idle when i first start it, seems to stop once engine is warmed up and its so quiet as soon as i rev the engine i cant tell if its still doing it.
what could it be? recently had cambelt changed but cant be sure its definately started since then
