That and the gearign is usually alot closer stacked than a std box too, so you drop less revs between gear changes which is ideal for a engin eon mega duration cams.
A 5spd effort from quaife has syncros, the main imporvement is the ratios.
They do a dogbox with 6spds for the F10/13/15 boxes too,
A Sequential box would be the way to go, yummy. :D

a dog box will only change gear change times in so much as you dont need to use the clutch. The only thing effecting changing gear is the linkage.

A dog box is no fun on the road lol, either that or it takes a long long time to get used to lol.

Main thing about a straight cut box is less transmission losses!

No, a dog box will cut gear change times, a plain straight cut box will just take more torque.

I keep getting things wrong, I thought it's main use was to cut gear change times, surely this is part of what it does aswell :boggle:

I love the whining noise aswell :D

Stronger..... but less durable. So will take mega power, but will do less road miles than a normal box.

Quaife straight cut gearset for an F20 (but its six speed) is just over 3k + VAT.

A complete quaife gearbox (six speed again) is around 6k-ish mark.

And a Proper 6 speed straight cut dog box is 8500ish, plus over 1k for the linkage.

Yeah well no, improves gear change times significantly. Andy how's you g/box worked out?

incorrect, it minimises loss of power through the transmission..the trade off however is more noise and less strength

surely thats incorrect?

depends on the material tbh,

helical cut gears have more teeth in mesh at the same time, but straight cut have only one in mesh.. less strength. but decent sets like quaife jobbies are of a decent enough material to take some abouse :)

quaife - £1300 for a 5-speed straight cut cluster, which can be fitted to most GM gearboxes

how much for one and where sells them?? is there any already made for the rallying corsas/novas or would you need to have a custom one done??

Are they the dog gearboxs or are they different again??
