you don't need to run a cooler on the XE.
you can buy the filter thread from a non cooler engine, and remove the sandwich plate with the cooler pipe connections. then the filter will screw down straight onto the oil pump housing.

I have a standard cooler and pipework sat in my garage if you want to buy them, but doing away with it altogether is your easiest option.

right, just got a lamp and had a look at the car, turns out that the oil cooler pipe was rubbing on the tie bar and put an hole in it, hence oil everywehere, hence why there was flames!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so well made up it aint head gasket and a trip to vauxhall tomorrow will cure!

:D
all smiles!

it did burn for a while but not as in half hour it was for about 5 minutes before it finally went out

like i sed if it was a leaky fuel line or ewt i wud expect it to have stayed for longer than that

ah well, its fixable

if it was oil burning id expect it to burn for ages/fuel would flash up and going out quickly.

Oil can leak from a headgasket!

was comin from the front and looked like it was oil burning yes, cant see it bein a leak as the flames went out themselves?

Take a look at it and check for obvious leaks. What side of the engine were the flames coming from? could you see if it was oil burning? Though if something is seroiusly wrong you can pick up a working 2.0 for about £400 ;)

After it had mixed with the water from the coolent system....

The fuel in the pots is vapour too which would explode rather than set on fire and be visably burning.

hmm. can't you see where the oils coming from?

gsi-gaz

i come up wi the conclusion, that there was still fuel in the chambers, and that must of got out through where the gasket was fried and that was what caused the flames, but i aint clued up that well

I'd say your engine is fucked personally. I don't think engines set fire when the head gasket goes.

flames are not normal with head gasket failure!!!!!

Do you have a fuel leak?

Was it def oil burning?

right got an xe in me corsa
been losin water a bit lately,
today goin up a dual carriage way nex thing loads of white smoke everywhere, bout a litre of oil on floor and flames comin from under the bonnet,

only a few flames like but still enough to shit me self like

anyways the flames went out themselves,

luckily no damage to any loom or anythin (phew)

so am i safe to say, the head gasket has fried?
