it will only work for a short while ,

AOL do have SMTP mail servers but nobody is allowed to use them , as soon as you do AOL's abuse department will notice the traffic and stop all access from you IP.

It's not normally authenticated, but the source IP is usually checked and most ISPs will normally only relay for IP address they own...

Or you could download your own SMTP server from Tucows.com, and run one on your own machine (to do outgoing only)?

That's what I ended up doing on a mate's machine who was using AOL...

I know its a bit late but i don't think that out going mail is authenticated at all with most isp's although the collection boxes are ;)

You need an SMTP server that'll let you relay mail through it without being authenticated - not a huge chance of that happening though TBH

Try smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

When you send a message you'll probably get a '550' error though. Basically because you're not using that ISP for your connection, it doesn't know you from Joe so wont relay mail for you.

id just get a different ISP, coz i have found that aol is.......FUCKING CRAP!

erm.. id say u have 2 choices..

1, try mail.arnison-cruise.co.uk
2, get a better ISP.

SMTP (outgoing) Hostname: Provided by your ISP
Username: The full email address
Password: As you have specified



but aol dont use pop3 so :boggle::boggle:

got my own email addy for outlook, and been given the pop3 name

it says for smtp, you use your isp's smtp addy, but with being on AOL they have there own mail system so dont get a smtp addy :(


wot can i enter in here so i can get it to send emails from the outlook account or cant i?
