Not a lot of change; if I walk with a straight leg it’s okay but any side loading at all crippled me. Just have it strapped up in a brace and that seems to keep it okay for now. I might try and go to get it checked out again this week.

It felt like someone stabbed me in the knee immediately after it happened but 10 seconds later the pain went away so I carried on riding, got a bit drunk and then rode back to our digs in the dark. Got in the hot tub and that’s when the pain set in. I can bend it although it hurts doing so however keeping it in one position isn’t painful, just more of a dull ache. I can walk on it if I keep my leg locked out straight. Rotating my foot side to side is the worst pain though; up and down is fine so driving isn’t too bad but changing from accelerator to brake and back is the worst!

Doctor didn’t give/mention crutches so I’m just walking on it as best as I can but don’t know if it’s be better to take the weight off. A friend is a physio so I’ll go and see him over the weekend and see what he suggests.

RichR

Surgery may not be a given, have you seen a Physio at this stage?

I assume your GP would have tested some range of motion, pain etc? It sounds like from that assessment and his recommendation that he is expecting it to resolve on its own. My guess is if he expected a need for surgical intervention you would have been sent off for scans.

My expectation would be that after the swelling has gone down a Physio may get you to gradually start loading it, probably with some isometric exercises to begin. More often then not a Physio would be keen to get you moving rather than having no loading on it whatsoever.

Might be an idea just paying to see a physio private. You can self refer now to see an NHS physio but i'd expect a waiting list. A Physio assessment should be able to confirm or rule our surgery.

Disclaimer : I am not a health practitioner, my opinion is based on my own experiences, sports science background, reading of physical therapy and occasional discussions with my physio friend.

Good luck mate

You'll need the op surely. Nasty one that.

The wife's brother had both ligs done in two ops. Nearly a year out.

Had another mate who did it snowboarding. They told him the extortionate cost to get him down off the mountain. He said fuck that and boarded down crying his eyes out.

I damaged my ACL a week ago taking a stupid fall snowboarding, it’s not completely torn so shouldn’t need surgery but either stretched it or slightly torn it - my GP just gave me a knee brace and said to ice it daily but if it was still giving me trouble in two weeks then to go back. If anything it seems to be getting stiffer, I’m hobbling about and it can take some weight but it’s certainly not feeling any better; has anyone done the same and was it best to put weight on it or use crutches and keep the weight off?

Asking here because CS revival
