try taking the fan belt off and running it then. sometimes the belts go hard and start to make noise or maybe the alternator bearings are on the way out, spin it with the belt off see if it makes a noise

same sort of thing happened to me last year mate, has it started since its got colder and is it mainly when u start the car up first thing? so when u rev it the noise gets louder, on mine its was coming from round my cam belt area and the local garage told me most vauxhalls r know for this, ne way what he did to mine was fit a pre tensioner to my cambelt so it wouldn 't have to be tightened or slackened manualy, the car would do this on its own. hope this might giv u some help:thumbs:

It does it in neutral, in all gears, with clutch in and out.... so does that rule that out or not?

My 1.2 16v corsa B seems to be making a kind of whistling noise whch increases with revs.

I have had an induction kit on it for ages but hasn't sounded quite like this until now.

It's not a nasty noise or anything, sounds a bit like a turbo charger sort of whistle.

It doesn't sound like the air intake system at all.... seems to be coming from the fan belt area..... but it's not a high pitched fan belt squeal... more subtle than that.

I'm wondering if it might be a worn belt, or possibly some bearings on the alternator or water pump or something???

I have network Q cover... should i find any problems using the cover if i have to get it fixed? Will they try to fob me off and make me pay?
