hi chris i have done this conversion only 1 month ago not out of choice though i had a 1999 t-reg 1.4 16v i was planning on tuning it slightly an keepin it but my bottom end went wrong and the shell bearings ground into the crank so stuff payin to have my engine fixed (my engine had done 48000 miles) lucky for me just down the road a rear end shunted 1.6 16v sport had just come in with mint engine only 18000 miles on it cost me 350 quid for it absolute giveaway ent got facilities to do so local garage do it for me only took best part of a day so very easy swop an labour an engine swop cost me 750 quid im now driving round in a basically new engine
ive since tuned this engine an it responds very very well
4 branch manifold
bfo cone
lexmaul inlet
powerflow cat back exhaust
ecotek valve
unichip

I had this conversion done to my 1.4 16v.
I asked vaux if my ecu would run the 1.6 and they said no. When it was plugged in tho it runs the engine. The swap was X14XE- X16XE. The C16XE has a different ecu.
Everything swapped over from the 1.4 apart from the clutch. Flywheel and gearbox on mine are from the 1.4. It has shorter ratios than the 1.6 gearbox so it accelerates like a bitch!!
Hope this helps.

X14XE is the same as the X16XE
except:
Chip or map (ECU is the same)
Pistons
Crankshaft
The rest is absolutely the same.:D

you couldnt use the same loom if you used the c16xe engine!

If the engines are of a similar year then you might be able to use the same loom and just swap the ecu. Physically the engines are the same, and use all the same sensors etc.

You might be able to if you got some one like superchips to put a 1.6 program into it.......
Would make the best value superchip ever at £300!

These engines are straight swap.

Both 16v, both almost identical blocks.

Shud b possible in a day, pretty easily. Plug and play.

You can bore out a 1.4 to 1.6, or 1650 while ur there.
Only worth doing if ur doing other internal mods though, probably cheaper to buy a 2nd hand 1.6/2.0l.

yeh, u shudnt touch nething from the bulkhead backwards, not necessary and it wud b a fkin pain in the arse...

Yea prob jus gettin some info at the mo reckon it'll b the new year did 2yrs of mechanics at college i jus weren't sure bout the looms etc. cos manuf do strange things with cars

well nething is tunable just depends how deep ur wallet is, it takes less money to get the same amount of power out of a bigger engine!

In terms of wot ur getting per pound a 2.0 from a 1.4 is the most effective but i agree a tuned 1.6 will handle better!

R u doin it urself?

Born_corsa02

posted on 27th Oct 03 at 19:59

No cos the 1.6 is a tunable engine and i feel that if vauxhall thought the corsa should of had a 2.0 wouldn't they ave dun it personally i feel a 1.6 is much more worthwhile for handlimg etc. so all the sensors and everything is the same den?

CRB 553

posted on 27th Oct 03 at 19:53

but answering ur question, yeh mounts r the same, and u can use the 1.4 16v loom if u want to yeh.

errm sorrry to say it buit if ur gonna upgrade from a 1.4 theres no poiunt in puttin a 1.6 in might aswell b a 2.0 for the time and effort spent.

I mean does the wiring loom have to be changed or can i just plug in the new ecu and sensors take it engine mounts are the same any advice
appreciated and no i don't want a 2.0

Cheers
