I went to my local garage when my light was on and they plugged the thing in and read the code out, was a map reading sensor so he poped it back in n all was fine. Charged me a tenner for it.

Idle Air Control Valve, you should be able to change it yourself, as for price I doubt you would have to pay more than £30 for it.

Your best bet is to buy the valve and get someone like Airport Motors in Colnbrook to fit it, they only charge £30 an hour labour, I've used them before for MOTs and my brother has used them to service his car, they do good work there.

whats IACV? - Idle Advance Control Valve?

how much does it cost to fix? am I able to fix it myself? or take it to a cheap garage to get fixed... I'm sure vauxhaul would like me to pay them £76 first before fitting a new one...

It's the IACV. Had the exact same problems in my old Corsa, Paul!

Read the fault codes yourself mate you only need a paper clip, there is a guide on how to do it on this site, it works, i went to vauxhall had the code read found out about this tried it and got the same result

I know when mine went for its MOT last time, the emitions were shit so they did something to the throttle/idle settings, and it was idling at about 1.5k too, and the management light kept coming on if it was left to idle for more than 15seconds.

Had a look at it myself, the cable was too tight, so the throttle was slightly open, so I adjusted this so the throttle was closed when foot was off pedal, reset the ecu and it seemed fine then, was idling at around 850rpm, no more management light, no more running problems!

Could be a few things, Idle control Valve is a common problem with Corsa B's. Might be one of the bolts in your air induction pipe has come loose, or there is a hole in the pipe, and is flooding it with air. Could also be the Air mass flow sensor

Have you had any problems with your speedo recently, i had the same trouble with my sri 1.4 8v but once i checked and tightened up the cable it stopped.

The yellow / orangey engine management light came on on my way home from college, it keeps coming on and going off... If I start my car it stays on until the throttle is blipped - and then comes back later...

Basically after driving it for a while with it like this, it seems that as soon as it has trailing throttle back past 2000 RPM the light comes on and the engine starts trying to cut out.

this means, accelerating its fine - I floor it and it pulls fine past 2k, but if I lift off and watch the revs fall it dies... (same as if I'm cruising in traffic in 5th gear and the revs are around 2k rpm everytime I lift off it starts to die)...

Also when I start my engine at the moment, it high idles - 1.5k RPM rather than idling at 800 rpm, and makes a noise like the ECU is trying to correct the problem... i.e. the engine is wearling around - with the revs trying to rise then it suddenly dropping a bit and it trying to flattern it out again...

Anyone know whats up?

Would be grateful if you could tell me as I don't want to have to pay for a vauxhaul diagonistics check and then pay to get the problem fixed...

Was recently serviced, I let the engine warm up before driving and never red line it (although it does get revved quite hard)...

What do you think is up? and whats the solution?

Cheers,

Paul J
