Decent engine stands can be had for about £35 which make working on an engine effortless.

If the engine is being rebuilt you'd be a fool not to fit new main/big end bearings and new piston rings.

Do you want to rebuild the engine to allow for extra power in the future when tb's etc are fitted? Or for standard use?

When the engine is in bits get the flywheel lightened, bottom end balanced, fit a new clutch, a new one (not remanufactured) should be fine, although if your loaded paddle clutches are meant to be good when the power goes up a lot (tb's).

I'd say you'd be very lucky to get 180bhp with standard management and induction. For the cost of decent Cams, vernuers and decent headwork you could be mostly there to throttle bodies, which are the best option, as the cams you use with standard management wont be that effective with throttle bodies anyway.

Engine management wise the main contenders are MBE and DTA, functionality wise there's not much in it, just a few different 'toys'. I have DTA and get on with it fine, have excellent cold start, fuel economy etc, as well as shift lights and the option of launch control if I can be assed to set it up. Engine management is only as good as the person who maps it though.

Really liked the look of the V6 stoppers though, was why I was asking a few days ago about fitting a larger master cylinder, as I feared thats what would be said :(

Yeah that setup. Pedal feel isn't great, but stamp on them hard and it does stop. Its good at stopping from high speeds quickly (purly cos of the size of them).

Rear discs seems to help the pedal out loads and stiffen the rear end up under branking. I wouldn't suggest the V6 front end thoguh, The Astra/Cav 16v setup with aftermarket discs and pads works fine, just doesn't look as big. :)

so how much are the LM mounts then? I was considering a kit from PVD, but I just want to make sure everything will last a good while before it 'breaks'

I think I'll get some coilovers hehe I liked the improvement my Spax kit gave me on my old corsa, so if these KW ones are any better, I'll look into them!

Also Daimo, your running the V6 brakes upfront & rear discs yeah?? What are they like, responsivness n pedal feel, etc??

Anyone wanna give me £500 for Coilovers?

well I will be fitting a set of coilovers (did a post a few days ago, but no-one replied in it) so again I'd be wondering what would be the best set I could get for this conversion

Engine will be bolted to an engine stand which is also bolted to my workbench in the garage, so working on the engine out of the car won't really be a problem.

u need at least 140lb front springs, but if u can afford them, get coilovers :)

AS for driving, coilovers are the way to go, with uprated poundage springs (forgetten what lbs are needed).

PiperX Viper works well on the Vauxhall lumps as they doen't respond well to induction kits. Vauxhall engines like sealed units, and good gains can be got from them.

With the mods u've mentioned (PiperX, head work, cams, zorst) u'll be looking at around 170bhp odd, poss nearer 180bph if its all setup right. However, i'd wait for Throttle bodies and just invest in a good engine managment system (Question for miggers that).

Uprated clutch, tbh, with those mods, nahh, standard one should be ok, but if you intend to carry on modding the engine, an uprated on always will be better. Again, have a pop on mig as theres usually posts about what aftermarket clutches, good/bad points are.

As for it being re-built, this is what i wanted to do to mine, but at the end of the day, theres no point replacing stuff till it goes wrong. Also, with the engine being in the car, its easier to work on as its stable. Unless u've got eh engine bolted down somewhere outside the car, its gonna be hard to work on as it'll topple everywhere and getting the right tightness settings could be tricky.

The 2.0 16v engien is very strong, and jsut plonking one in with minimal mods should be fine. I've had no real problems at all, nothing wrong with the conversion, just general engine issues.

Top qualityu conersion for cheap £££

I'm trying to get as much information here as possible, so there are a few questions, and sorry if I don't make too much sense.

I'm going to be getting a Corsa B SRi 8v (with Mechanical Speedo) next year, something (hopefully) with a battered engine as its just being replaced with a C20XE, no bodykit, just standard to the eye.

First off I'm wondering if there are any recommended modifications to make to the chassis legs, or strengthening required to improve reliability & drivability.

Given the fact an induction kit is pretty-much useless on the C20XE due to the fact its a hot engine, would something like a Piper-X Viper kit be any good or well suited? or is there any other alternatives I can use (not looking for throttle bodies just yet)

What sort of bhp gains would I be looking at with fitting Cams, full stainless exhaust, filter (as above), and some headwork.

Would an uprated clutch be a good buy with these ,mods, or would it just help destroy gearbox/wheel bearings/cv joints quicker

One last thing, as the engine's going to be completely rebuilt anyway when I get it, would it be a good idea to replace the piston rings & bearings, etc, during the build?

If I think of any more questions, or you have a few suggestions also, wouldn't mind hearing them! Cheers :thumbs:
