quote: by the sounds of things, is this the little red wire that runs to the airbox which in turn closes a flap to allow the engine to suck warm air of the manifold when cold?? if it is then just disconnect it at the airbox, put a screw in the end of it, and then put it up in the scuttle tray

Just put it somewhere as near to the air filter as possible, it measures the air temp, so as long as its in the engine bay near the filter it will be fine. Putting it in any cold air ducting is stupid as that air will be much cooler than air sucked by the engines as the filter is not sealed to the cold air feed.

so it just has to be there, and not do anything? as long as its there measuring the air, even if it serves no purpose as the air will be cold all the time?

get a pipe or hose between k&n and where its supposed to be, make hole in to pipe, and put something between that is it absolutely airtight, so there is no leak.

its the inlet air temperature? engine uses it *partially*to make right a/f ratio by sensoring how cold*dense* air is and puts the right amount of fuel in, if its that sensor you are meaning...
