GAZ have also said.

The bearing should be counter bored to sit onto the piston rod so remove the gold spacer washer & make sure the counter bored part fits over the turned part of the piston rod.

We have checked the drawing & all of the other piston rods we have here & the rod detail has never changed from when we first started making this kit, they are on one of our employees cars as well


I do have helper springs in but they are not interfering wuth the mounts.

What I will say is the top of your coilovers looks different from the rest - have you got helper springs? Wonder if they are interfering

Just had this back from GAZ but doesn't really help me much.

           The top rod detail is the same as the standard car so you fit the black top collet on the spring then the spacer washer, then the bearing & then the original top mount basically everything apart from the original spring.




I even built up it back up on the original damper and had plenty of thread on that then transferred all the top over to the coilovers then tried to tighten the nut and only goes as far as in the picture above :boggle:

When i first fitted them i mounted it exactly the same way as a normal damper whether i used the bearing with or without the cup but as you can see there is not enough thread showing through to tighten it securely.

That's what I'd expect to see, that's how I remember the struts for corsa's looking. I personally havent worked on one in such a long time.

It's because you aren't using the top mount bearings / ali cone. I can see you've said they wont fit with them on but you need to establish why that is - they are 100% needed.

I remember doing my brothers hydraulic suspension and we fitted the rams without those top strut bearings - lots of knocking and the strut sheared through into the bonnet :o

If we look at what a normal Corsa suspension strut looks like off the car - you can see how much of the top thread is exposed as opposed to yours.

The top mount bearings would certainly close that gap - you shouldn't have so much sticking out.

Might be worth contacting GAZ direct- they have been pretty sound in the past.

Is the part number on your coilovers GHA310 F?

Iv even thought that could this cone be the wrong one because ideally i could do with being 1 or 2 cm taller.

Tried that Jed,to be able to use the bearings i need to use 2 on each coilover so one acts a spacer but surely shouldn't have to do this as then the rubber damper part of the mount is miles away from the top part of the cone so it wouldn't be doing its job.

Really don't want to go down the solid top mount route as they would be way too harsh for normal road use.

try that thing i said, use a standard oem bearing (just the bearing bit) place it on the lip of the inner gaz damper upside-down, it doesnt as such act as a bearing, more so a spacer, and it fits perfect and flush... the rest was straight forward for me but thats the comp brake tm's

This the order i have it in and you can see inside the cup on the top where the thread ends so wont be able to tighten it securely.

Aye Jed loads of play when pressing down on the front of the car.

Cheers Richie i don't have GAZ rear coilovers on now,i ended up stripping them down and converted them to a spring and shock set up.

Looks like il be going back to a fixed height set up on the front at this rate.

The squeaking noise in the rears can sometimes be from rubbing - have you checked? You are supposed to cut / smash back the arch for fitting the rears.

They are known to be very creaky though - they aren't designed for anything but track use.

Careful you dont end up with this

Got round to removing the alloy bit in the middle and fitted the bearing like advised and all looked well until the car was lowered back to the ground and now this silver cup has a lot of play and knock when pressing the front of the car down :( still not right.

Recently fitted some GAZ GHA coilovers to my B but having a few problems.

First one is the order the top mount assembly as people are telling me i should be using the bearing out of the top mount cup from my old suspension but im finding that when tring to do up the top nylon lock nut it doesn't come through far enough to lock it safety so have had to leave it off for now.

And the rear coilovers the springs seem creaky so have had to turn the dampening up to reduce it.

Has anyone had of these problems?


How its currently fitted on the fronts.
