That would be a very good reason tooo use the c16xe setup lol! Didn't realise you were down under,

Regarding the manifold the bottom or top holes need elongating either way which either x16xe manifold you use as the hole centres are slightly different, but it still clashes with the sump certainly if your using a btb manifold.

I agree, it is easy to wire in the XE1 loom, as you guys can easily obtain one from a Vectra B. Where I'm from, our Vectra Bs weren't fitted with 1.8s (2.0, 2.2 and 2.5/2.6 is what we got), so that's why I used the C16XE ECU and loom. In my experience, there's been no issue with regards to fuelling after about 10 months of driving.

I did try using the Astra G loom (as that's what I got my engine out of), but it was a bit too much stuffing around. I tried sourcing a Vectra B loom from the UK, but only got stuffed around or told that they won't ship to Australia.

With a fairly moderate knowledge of electronics, the drive-by-wire setup wouldn't have been that hard. A Vectra B pedal sensor and six extra wires is all that's required.

And in regards to the exhaust manifold, I know for a fact that elongating the top holes on the standard C16XE manifold will make it fit the Z18XE, without changing the sump. Again, my experience may differ given my location and possibly the fact I've used an Astra engine and not the Vectra engine.

An there's absolutely no point in using the c16xe/x16xe ecu and wiring loom, it's soooo easy to wire in the x18xe1 loom it's pointless.
Why run a map that isn't suited to the engine you are using.

Main reason people fit the x16xe sump is they usually have an expensive exhaust manifold for the x16xe.

I have a 1994 Corsa B GSi that I put a Z18XE in to. I did use the original C16XE ECU and sensors, along with a throttle body from a Holden JF Viva F18D3 engine (same car as Chevrolet/Daewoo Lacetti, engine is almost identical to the X18XE1/Z18XE), as it had the same ICV and TPS as the C16XE. Had the throttle cable modded to suit (used a C14SE cable with a new inner that had 5cm added to it and a cable nipple soldered on the end). With the cam sensor, you also need the C16XE/X16XE cam sprocket and the Vectra B Z18XE timing cover. A custom bracket was also required for the coil pack. You will also need a fuel pressure regulator as the 1.8 only has a single input fuel rail and no room for the return. I also kept the Z18XE injectors. For the flywheel and clutch, I've used the C16XE setup all connected to the original F15CR gearbox.

I'm not sure how you go with the X16XE ECU and sensors, but I figure you can do it the same way as I've done with what was an original C16XE-equipped car. Also, I still used the Z18XE sump. Changing to the C16/X16 sump wasn't required. I fitted Z18XE extractors that were meant for a Corsa C, but still cleared the sway bay fine and had my 2" exhaust modded to connect to the exhaust manifold.

Down here in Oz, it's hard to find a decent 1.6 second hand and C20XEs are getting harder to find. Z20LETs aren't that easy to obtain and C20LETs almost don't exist (we only had 97 Calibra Turbos hit our shores). Z18XEs, however are most common in Astra G form here and it's easy to find them cheap with low mileage.

In the end, all I can say is this type of conversion does work well. I've never had the pleasure of driving a C20XE Corsa B, but all I know is the Z18XE swap is worthwhile given the fact it's 40-50kgs lighter than a C20XE and box and it's not that far behind on power. Add to that, the Z18XE will fit with your existing mounts and gearbox, which makes it a lot easier than you think.

Prior to my Z18XE, I had a C16XE with a powerbox intake. It was quick (although it had a flat spot just south of 3500rpm), but where the Z18XE shines is that it has ample torque throughout the rev range and it makes the car just so much fun to drive.

I did a XE1 into Chris F's Corsa.

The sump requires cutting and welding of the pickup, plus baffles cutting, Don't bother, Stick with the XE1 sump and manifold.

Wiring is easy enough, mostly colour for colour.

Most people put the x18xe1 in to the B, simply because the xe1's are cable throttle, and the z18's ar fly by wire,

Sumps are just a bonus really, they give you that little more clearance as the standard ones are pretty close to the ground, and you always hit the sump plug first..

You should be able to run the Z18xe on an xe1 loom and ecu, just use a xe1 throttle, possible a few extra loom mods required.

Hi, wondering if anybody has info on putting a z18xe into a corsa b?

Ive seen a few different ways, aftermarket mapable ecu, and people using x16xe ecu, loom, tb and sensors.

Does the second method work ok? (id have thought it would run a bit lean and probably not that well)

Has anybody used the looma and ecu from the donor car and got a piggyback ecu to control it?

Also seen x16xe sumps fitted, is this neccisary? (or is it better than the z18 sump in any way?)

The mechanical side of the conversion isnt a problem,
