I'd be using stilsons before an adjustable spanner.

i always use a adjustable spanner on the the rectangle bit always does the trick to stop it spining

Depending on the diameter of the threaded bit, drill a small hole in it and use a screwdriver/ allen key to hold it?

Is the car jacked up or on the floor?

Sometimes the extra weight on the shock of having the car on the floor is enough to hold the shock whilst you undo the nut.

m8 i had the same problem in my shocks when i wanted to put my rear brace on and the moles just poped off i got a file and filled the sides of the top of the shock and then put them back on but tighter and then used the spanner on them and it finally gave in and came off buy my thread is bust but it still works :)

done this, I could reach to hold both at same time, but mole grips hold themselves against chassis after few turns

I managed to get a pair of mole grips on the top of the shock below the nut to stop it turning

Impact gun and a deep socket might help

Unless your planning putting standard suspension back on to sell the car then you wont need it? And if u do im sure it wont be hard to pick up some standard corsa shocks

corsayoung

Well im not sure if i will need it again you see, there so fricken frustrating, all day i spent trying to get it off, only to have to put it all back together and try again tomorrow!

davieslim

Mertin

If u dont need it again grind the f***er off

corsayoung

posted on 23rd Nov 10 at 00:42

tried that, had mole grips and correct spanner on top trying but just rounded the top flats

Mertin

I gave up on mine and took a grinder to the actual piston on the shock and cut it off. Supposed to grip the flats though and remove top nut

hey,

basically got the removing top nut off rear shocks and thing wouldnt budge, just kept spinning!

Got the mole grips out, they just pinged off, started to round the top of the rectangle on the shocks now :o

Just looking and peoples best way of removing them?! Tempted to get dad to weld bar on to hold it?

thanks
