ok thanks for the replies people, have had the clocks off and they are cable driven.
i pulled the cable out of the gear box and got a mate to turn that end and the clocks span slightly so im sure its not the cable of clocks them selves.
could the problem be the speedo pickup on the box its self?

not all sport are, my old 1996 sport was cable

my old 1994 1.4 sport was electric. speedo never used to work on it, i changed the clutch on it then it started working again. just put it down to a poor connection at the sensor, try disconnecting the multiplug as the sensor, and plugging it back in to see if it makes any difference

is the speedo pickup on this electric or no as my speedo has just randomly stopped workin with a couple other little issues, any help appreciated.
