A smaller inlet port can increase inlet velocity and so produce better mixing and combustion, which in turn can lead to more torque and power. And I have yet to see or hear of a C16XE on TBs making 146ft/lbs of torque (apart from SBD's double injectored £15000 jobbies. Not saying that the C16XE isn't a cracking engine - it is. But I am saying that the X16XE is equally capable and can respond to tuning every bit as well - mine is proof of that. | |

The early GSI engine like junior said do have bigger inlet valves, the earlier engines respond to tuning allot better!!! | |

You will be hard pushed to find a low mileage C16XE TBH. Go with a later one on an m/n plate, thats when they stopped the GSi. Or you could get a 1.6 Sport, thats what i have and i love it. Still a corker of an engine in it. | |

The early one has the C16XE engine and the late one the X16XE engine. The C16XE apparently has a better head, The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) was also added to the later one. | |

they are both actually ecotec engines, except the later ones came with more strict emission controls and it lost 3bhp from the original 109bhp | |

can anyone tell me what the difference is between early GSi's and the late ones? i know they are both 1.6 16v but how come there is a power difference???:o:boggle: |
