OK - didn't realise there was a difference in inlet valve size. Having said that, bigger inlet valves do not necessarily mean more power. It's all about matching the valve sizes to the head characterisitics and volumetric capacity. A smaller inlet port can increase inlet velocity and so produce better mixing and combustion, which in turn can lead to more torque and power. And I have yet to see or hear of a C16XE on TBs making 146ft/lbs of torque (apart from SBD's double injectored £15000 jobbies. Not saying that the C16XE isn't a cracking engine - it is. But I am saying that the X16XE is equally capable and can respond to tuning every bit as well - mine is proof of that.

There's not a lot in it, but that's true. However, if you machine out all the EGR castings and bin the EGR mechanism, the newer engine will respond every bit as well as the older version.

not true because the older c16xe engine had slightly larger valve ports as well as no EGR so even if you remove the EGR system the newer engine still wont respond just as well but. there really is nothing in it. its not worth crying about.:thumbs:

why though, are there really any major differences???

thier both very good engines

i have the gsi (C16XE), blinding engine

it really dont matter tbh, but if u had the option and both engines were the same e.g. price and millage then all day go for the C16XE

You will be hard pushed to find a low mileage C16XE TBH. Go with a later one on an m/n plate, thats when they stopped the GSi. Or you could get a 1.6 Sport, thats what i have and i love it. Still a corker of an engine in it.

But if u put a Mantzel power box on both do they become same power wise, or will c16xe still ave mor? :o

The early one has the C16XE engine and the late one the X16XE engine. The C16XE apparently has a better head, The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) was also added to the later one.

The early one responds to tuning much more than the later one.

early = placy
late = metal

Gambit

they are both actually ecotec engines, except the later ones came with more strict emission controls and it lost 3bhp from the original 109bhp

and it now has an Ecotec cover (thats why it gets called the Ecotec version), and a metal inlet manifold

the 1st edition had a plastic inlet manifold, or it may be vice versa, can never remember

is that it??? are there any reliability issues with these engines?
