Matt and everyone else.... you need oil to have pressure... so the light WILL go on if the oil is low enough to not get sucked up the pipe.

basically the oil light in the corsa is nothing to do with oil level its the oil pressure and if the oil pump is dying which could be likely = no oil going around = engine death very soon if you drive it any more. cant be any more simpler than that tbh.

Half a litre may not have been enough? Basically, I think the idea is that most folk wouldn't drive it. You run a risk of fucking the whole engine if there's an oil issue.

My oil light has flashed twice in the whole time I've had the car, both time when I've been going round a corner. This was because oil was low. It's never stayed on though so I have no idea.

Just get a new one. Couldn't say if it's safe to drive because it could be the oil pump giving up...

The oil light doesn't indicate low level, it indicates a broken pressure switch or imminent engine failure. Total waste of time.

Oil pressure switch, Common fault. Easy twist out and then twist back in if I remember rightly
