Planning on jacking the car up and having a good look on saturday.

Was starting to do my head in! Lots of cigarettes and scratching my head pacing up and down going on trying to get to the bottom of it!

Will keep you lot posted and thanks for the help!

the 12v to your coil pack is always live its the 2 that pulse when the engine is being turned over that would of told you crank sensor. glad you found the problem anyway just unplug the crank sensor and wiggle it out it is possible

Glad you found the problem , had a word with a mate today about this the eml should have told you the crank sensor was faulty this is what caused the wrong diagnosis, the sensor sends signal to ecu then ecu sends signal to coilpack to fire plugs as you had no signal from ecu then no spark, this can also happen with ecu faults and earth faults on ecu. you can always sell on the coilpack, funny but had my sport for three years and never had a problem I must be lucky.

Hi all,

Right, decided to check the crankshaft sensor on the bottom crank wheel tonight. Moved the wiring around and the car started first time, after dying out after about 30secs, then not starting again.

Its obviously fubared so have baught an oem gm sensor on ebay for delivery Friday.

Next question, how the hell do you get the thing out? Its got to come out from the fuel rail bar, and pull through to the bottom of the engine!

Next question is getting it back through the engine when fitting the new one.

Coat hanger trick springs to mind to get it through but any suggestions?

I suspected this would happen when you posted that you had 12v going in on the old one, like you said give the new one a good new earth, i will run this problem by my mate a auto sparky, is the scorpion just a alarm or immobilizer also, and check your ecu connections and the ecu earth also.

New coil pack fitted. No spark. Im getting pissed off with this now as i am getting a live feed from the plug going into the coil pack.

Im thinking a possible bad earth to the engine as the coil pack needs to be earthed on the side of the head?

I just cant think where all the earthing points are tho?

My alarm is a scorpion, but i have no idea how to reset it but there is no reason why it should have cocked up in the first place.

Help please guys!! :(

If you have 12v going into the coil thats good so could be no out put from coil to plugs so could still be coilpack but could also be something else we will have to see what result you get with the new pack. :|

Hi lads,

Just done the voltmeter test, thinking logically i plugged it into the black 'live' wire on the plug going into the coil pack.

12v reading so it looks like its my coil pack.

Got one on its way to me anyway so will keep you all posted. :D

on the plug going to the coil pack

Many thanks for the replies guys.

The ECU light stays on when trying to turn it over. Im sure its supposed to go off aint it?

I havnt done a voltmeter test on it. Where do i put the voltmeter?

On the end of the plugs (which go on the sparkers)?

On the connections on the distributor box?

On the plug plugging into the distributor box?

Does the ECU light come on when you turn the ignition on and go out while your turning it over?

As above coilpack or possible alarm ,but coilpack would be the first thing to check.

put a voltage tester on the plug for the coil. one should be live one should be earth and the other two should pulse when you turn the engine over. if it does then its the coil if not then you need to look elsewhere

Hi all,

Tried to start my x14xe today, and it just kept turning over.

Its getting fuel as the spark plugs have wet ends and the whole engine bay reeks of fuel, but no spark on any of the 4 HT leads when out and held near an earthed engine component.

It just happened out of the blue, get nothing just the engine turning over and over.

I checked all the ht leads and sprayed wd40 in the ends of them and dried the surrounds, and nothing. Battery fully charged. :boggle:

The car has got an aftermarket scorpion alarm on it, but not too sure whether this would have something to do with getting no spark???

Please can someone shed some light on this! :(
