My RPM counter has stopped working on my car

Corsa 1.6 16v sport, with the 140MPH electronic clocks

I have been told that it is run off the alternator

Please can i have some advice on what to check

I have already taken the clocks out and cleand the connections up and tried them in a freinds car and it works fine
