had this problem.
jack it up and grab the shock on the piston and see if there is play in it. if so i found that when the top mount bolt is done up the cup toches the bearing in the top mount and that in turn touches the top of the strut before the nut is tight. hope that makes sense.
basically i had to make my own shallower cups and some spacers so the nut could be tightened right up

Cheers for that, I think ill be taking them off tomorrow to have a look so ill let you all know how I get on

your taking the piss right?

if not thats your problem right there, probably hitting the bump stops when it hits a bump

No, not taking the piss. Used to have coilovers on it but took them off because of the rock hard ride. Standard ones have been fine for a year on my last corsa with this engine and it never knocked once. The kerb outside my house is literally 1cm tall so i cant be hitting the bump stops when i go over that. when the car is stood you can bounce the suspension up and down like any other corsa and it never makes a sound

cheers for the reply but When I put the new whell bearings in the other week I used brand new chris astley hub centres because I thought my old ones might have been slightly undersize. The hub centres have only done a few hundred mileds

hub?
my old xe done this and it turned out the part of the hub flange that goes through the wheel bearing was munched.
you'l have to take it to bits to find out though

The front suspension on my corsa LET has developed quite a nasty sounding knock on the front end, especially on the nearside.

Everytime I go over a speed bump over about 15 or 20mph I get a loud bang which seems to be quite heavy. There is a lowered kerb outside my house and even when i hit that i get the knock.

The shocks and springs are new standard ones
New balljoints on both sides under the hubs
Got a pair of new wishbones but only fitted the passenger side, made no difference so havent bothered fitting the drivers one yet
Tried another set of top mounts from the scrap yard
new wheel bearings both sides

None of these have made any difference and there is no anti roll bar to knock.

I cant feel any play at all when I jack the car up and grab the wheel. Then only other things i can think of are the track control arm bushes and the track rod ends.

Has anyone else got any more ideas?
