if you are using the wiper stalk to open the boot, yes the ignition would need to be on for you to open it, however if you use the wiring for the rear wiper motor and connect one end to your solenoid and the other end to a switch connected to a permanent live, then no, the ignition does not need to be on to open the boot. | |

I used an ebay solenoid and wired it to the wiring from the rear wiper motor, as that was gone after semi smooth boot, and soldered it to a relay from my clifford alarm, so mine opens from my alarm fob. | |

it is possible yes with that button, BUT ou have to get either a strong spring or an angle grinder | |

could swap the wires from the rear wiper stalk onto that switch and save hours of running wires through the car when its already done for you :D | |
