Vaux tech

Which sensor the thermostatic sensor in/on the rad to 'kick-in' the electric fan or the coolant temperature sensor?

The fan does work - unless you mean it's not starting early enough - which I don;t think is the case as the temp. guage is not that far across (mor than half way) b4 it does start. OR do yo mean the coolant temperature sensor ?

sounds like a knackered sensor to me, put a new one on, check for leaks around the radiator/fan switch, shud b ok after that hopefully.

no what we want to know is what engine is it

ie

1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.4 16v, and so-on...

the CTS is in a different position on the engines, plus it could be an array of things.

saying the EML just comes on when it gets hot doesnt help us unless we know what engine it actually is.

What causes the Engine management light to come on which is related to the engine temperature. I've been unable to do the papaerclip test due to a bust diagnostic connector and have been going thro a process of elimination to suss out the fault.

The engine management light comes on when the engine gets hot and on b4 the electric fan kicks in, once the engine has cooled either through driving after fan been on and driving to cool engine OR switch engine off and let it cool - the engine mngt light goes off.

Definately related to the engine temperature. Fan works fine, the temp. guage works fine - basically the light goes out when the engine cools.

WHICH SENSOR sends engine temperature info. - is it the Coolant Temperature Sensor. Does the output from this sensor also effect the tickover as when the light comes on, the tickover is quite lumpy compared to when the engine is cold.

When the car is stared from cold the light is off, drives nicely and the tickover is smooth.
