Did you check the head for flatness before fitting the new gasket?

hi my corsa 1.4 16v sport was leaking oil quite badly could esp see it leaking slighltly right of and underneath the dip stick, took it a few garages who all said head gasket so had my cousin who is a mechanic replaced it, steam cleaned the oil off it and next day was leaking oil again in same place? if its not the head would it be a split block? or is there anything else it could be?:boggle:
