All corsa engines are intereference engines. But was going to say sounds just like the llug on the rotor arm!

well thankfully it was just a bit of plastic that connects the distributor rod to the crank shaft, £7 sorted her out (Y)

i can also confirm x16xe is not valve safe, as the last owner of my car had not changed the cambelt. It broke on her, so she had vauxhall fit a brand new engine :) as all 16 valves were bent! by the way the cost of vauxhall supplying and fitting a new engine is £1750!! :!

sounds like 8 new valves & belt will be needed :(

not too cheap if you can fix it yourself, although a garage will be £150 to £200 including the valves & such...

yeh, i can turn the rotor arm by hand, checking the belt tomoz cos its too f**King cold lol, presumed it was the belt but will let yous know tomoz.

can you actually turn the rotor over manually & have you removed the cambelt cover to check the belt if it is there??

tbh you shouldnt be able to turn the rotor arm if the belt has gone or not UNLESS all the valves are bent & stuck open due to timing belt failure, or if the dizzy itself has broken down internally.

1.2 8v is C12NZ, engine number is located on front of engine between where the oil fitler is & the gearbox bellhousing... can be hard to see, but tbh, all C12NZ engines are the same, only difference can be regarding the aux drivebelt & some models were fitted with a coilpack & not a normal dizzy/rotor arm config.

where can i find the c12nz type model number on the engine???, what else could it be if the rotor arm spins easily??? we presumed it was timing belt asit does'nt spark when turning over, checked with a timing strobe, ne ideas??

depending on RPM when the belt goes, but I have seen various 1.2 & 1.4 (including my old 1.4 8v) engine get damaged valves from as little as 2kRPM

also

X/C16XE and X14XE are inteference engines, as are pretty much all vaux engines!

if all you did was stall it & the timing belt is fine, then there is no reason why it should of got damaged valves??

C12NZ IS an interference engine, so if the belt goes, you will get bent valves...

yeh ive heard the 1.4 16v isnt safe, was just wondering which ones are safe cos if the valves have gone then im lookin into getting either a 1.4/1.6 16v for it or buying a polo

I can confirm the X14 XE is not safe...took out 12 valves at low rpm when the cambelt went

well i stalled it trying to move off on ice :S , was below 1000 revvs

might have been, depends on how the engine stopped and RPM at the time. i know the c14se runs much closer than most 8v's, i am not sure about the rest!

my cam belt went in a 1.2 8v (1993), is this valve safe, if so which others are??
