changed the speedo and it still didnt work, and what a barsteward the cable is to get to  does this mean its likely to be the mechanism that goes into the gearbox and how do you remove it?

this cable

screws into gearbox & round back of engine, through the bulkhead to the dash.

i had the same problem with my 1.2 8v corsa. was going along doin 50 them the speedo stopped. the mileage clock runs off ur speedo so hence no speedo, no miles!!! then further along on my journey the engine management light came on. the problem was that the speedo cable had snapped inside the outter cable. no idea why this is linked to the speedo cable at all buy once i got a new speedo it never came on again!! what youve got pictured there is ur clutch cable by the way!!

have u pulled it out the box n checked the mechanical drive from the box? checked up at head make sure the cable housing in clocks aint buggered. it will be cable related

the gear wheel on the end of the transducer could have sheared off, mine did. bought a new cable, and even new dials, before i found the problem

i thought it was the cable that is attached to the top of the gearbox (X14XE engine) as i've had a look at that and still seems tight

Yeah its all related - more than likely the cable has snapped than just come loose.

would be the clocks causing the car to cut out. There is a thread that had been posted in the past day or two that explains further.

Was on motorway the other day when my speedo stopped working, and the mileage has stopped going up aswell, so i thought it must be the cable come out the back of the clocks, but then the car is now cutting out and idleing low and i'm getting the EM light coming on. i thought i would ask on here before taking my clocks out as its a pain, or should i just get the EM light read?
