still easy.

drain oil.
remove exhaust downpipe (3nuts)
take out the 15 sump nuts.
clean mating faces of sump and block with emery cloth
apply sealing compound to the 4 joints on the block(you will see what i mean!)
fit new gasket.
re-fit everything
fit new oil filter
fill up with oil
job done.

should take 1-2 hours.

im getting confused when you said sump gasket, i thought you were referring to the sump nut washer  yes i suspect you will need a ramp to refit a sump gasket. dont quote me on that though.
where in auz you from?

Thanks for that info but when I look at the leak it is from were the sump meets the engine at the front opposite the radiator not arround the sump plug is that what u meant

am i making any sense of what my problem is the mechanic told me i need it done when i had it in for a weird temprature problem

thanks

hi ruebs, the sump gasket is really easy to do, quite simply, get under the car, and locate the sump plug, unscrew, drain oil into container, fit gasket, replace and tighten up plug and refill with some fresh oil. Why you are at it, fit a new oil filter, which is the canister shape thing at the front of the engine near the bottom of the block.
