yeah the F18 is a big block gearbox, and wont mate to the 20XE, so your friend has either an F16 or F20. he must have the Cesaro model Ian ;)

f18 is the new big block box and they are crap. I would go for the f20!

You sure the factory box is F18?

Like I say, I've never heard these two compared. Normally the choice is F16 from early Calibra and F20 from most others.

F20 is rated at 200ft/lb torque
F16 at 160ft/lb

F18 will be 180?

Still enough even though its not as strong as F20.

The ratios are also not just decided by gearbox F number, you can get different ratios within one model of box.

Even if they are different ratios then there is still no 'better' box, one may offer closer ratio and better acceleration, but it will offer worse top speed and will be worse on fuel on the motorway.

Ok,let me make it simple.
An opel astra gsi(1.8l 16v 125Bhp)now has a C20XE in the bay.The car is still running the factory gearbox. Is it a f18 or f20?If it is a f18 is it better to have the f20?Explain please:)

But, i hope my friend knows what's he talking about cause the car is running,he drove me around town in the car today, the c20xe is in and he's pretty shure that the 1.8l astra came with a factory f18 gearbox.:boggle:
Any thoughts?

Not sure if F18 will even go on C20XE? You might not have the choice.
