but then the calculation thing i use doesnt take into account wheel weight.

ur's will be slower as its using more effort to turn a heavier wheel

on 195/45r15's @ 6.5krpm yours would be hitting 125mph

it can get pretty complicated. when you start comparing different gearboxes on different cars that have different wheels, there is a whole pile of extra factors to take into account

thats pretty accurate, my speedo seems to be spot on, my mates in his ka on the other hand reads 10mph above me at the same speed

He can get the car to 7200RPM in 5th has 15's with 195/45/15 tyres
Most i could get was about 6500RPM with 17's 205/40/17's

for broster to be doing an actual 130mph he'd need to be hitting 6750rpm in 5th

this assumes he's running 195/50r15 tyres. if they are bigger then the rpm will drop v.slightly to say 6.5k if he was running 17's

Brosters corsa does 130mph and he is using his F15 on his 1.6 from the 1.4 i belive. i had a 1.6 with 1.6 F15 and i couldnt keep up

you would lose top end but you'd see a slight increase acceleration

im assuming the 1.4 has the 3.94 FD and the 1.6 the 3.74FD

so comparing the 2 FD's in a 1.6, in 5th at 6krpm

the 3.94FD = 115mph
the 3.74FD = 121mph

So if ya stuck a F15CR from a 1.4 16V that has a different FD onto a 1.6 what would be the out come, top speeds etc

Gambit

u'll find that the F15CR found in later 1.4 will have a different final drive than those found in the 1.6

after all the F13CR & F15CR only differed in the FD.

F13 is a carry over from Nova days hence why its found in early corsa sri's etc, later on vaux used 3 different FD's in the F15CR

are the flywheels that same also then?

I was also told that the F15 box could be found in some 1.4 16v's last night.

Would there be much point in changing then? :boggle:

Can we have evidence of an F13 on a 1.4 16v all the ones ive ever seen have had F15s???

Look in a haynes manual :|

or as soem will agree some 1.4's had the f15cr box as mine did!

Cybermonkey

The 1.4 is an F13CR box, and the 1.6 is the F15CR. Nearly identical except for minor ratio change in 2nd, and different final drive. All other gears share the same ratio. Oh and the F15 will take more torque than the F13.

the ratios might be different, usally the samaller engined car gearbox will have shorter ratios so if you put a 1.4 box ona 1.6 engine it would have quicker aceleration but a lower top speed

From a 1.4 sport and a 1.6 sport?

Would there be any advantage in swaping my gearbox in my 1.6 to the on i got sitting in my garage on the 14??
