yeah, never thought of it that way!

well if i can pick up another Gsi engine which is in good condition with less millege then i mite go ahead with it, as its costing me a lot more to repair my current engine wen instead i cud pop in a better condition engine for cheaper!

i mean ya got a 1.6GSI engine, you could pick up another one that aint burning oil for less than £400 and it would be a straight swap, all it would cost ya is a cambelt for good measure and oil/fluids

yeah but for less than £400 you could drop a new GSI engine in, it will only take ya self a day if you do it on ya own

a 2litre conversion is for the long term, at least a year from now!

and by then i will be 22 years old, licence for 4 years with 1 years NCB(hopefuly) , so insurance shudnt be a problem :)

so £1500 for a fully fitted 2litre 16v engine, thats not to bad considering i was thinking of getting my current C16XE fully repaired which wud cost bout £1000 max, and then a mantzel powerbox £550 to raise the power, but if i can get a more powerfull and better condition with low millege 2litre 16v put in for roughly the same price then its a much better option init :)

just hope my current engine will last at least another year :boggle:

agree with miles, while my engine was in pieces i got every thing done, its cheaper in the long run to do it, a 2litre will cost about £1500 fitted so its yor call matey, my cars been off the road for months getting sorted should be back any time now, half way through a 2litre was nearly put in but i decided aginst it for some reason!!!! hope you get it sorted

If you can insure it.

£1000 might be steep, the sump gasket and valve stem seals are cheap, and the sump and head will have to come off anyway. If you plan on keeping it you may as well get new main and big end bearings whilst its in bits.

SHITE!

i need the valve stem seals, sump gasket and piston rings done!!!
so its gonna cost me like £1000 maximum init!!

i mite as well get a good condition 2litre red top from a calibra or sumthing put in for that much???

New rings are about £60, but you will pretty much need an engine rebuild to fit them. Unless you take the head and sump off, give it a hone in situ, with plenty of rags covering things up, then refit the pistons/rods.

If ya having ya piston rings changed cos they are fried and ya burning oil then ya bored will be more than likely glazed, you will need to rehone the bored and get oversized rings fitted, i didnt bother to do this i had mine rebored and fitted bigger pistons, like you said its an involved job i would say ya looking at £400-500 maybe more cos the engine gotta come out that would be just for the oversized rings
