u'll pay between £200 and £400 in a garage for a new head from my experience.

How much was the original head gasket changeover btw? I'm not sure about doing it myself for changing the fecking camcover "glue" gasket thing thats leaking atmo.

well if you get a compression test done and it aint roughly correct then you can take those results back to the garage that replaced the original gasket and ask what da fuk is going on!

yer wot im asking is --- if i take it to another garage, and get a pressure test done. And the measurements on each cylinder are different, or whatever. will that show that the head gasket is bust, and that they have not actually done what i paid for i.e. new head.

have they damaged your thermostat when removing the head - did they replace al lthe head blots with new ones - cause if not these are all possible causes

Mine had a shagged thermostat at the same time - but Id caught the head gasket blowing really early ( on the way to my mot - dad spotted excessive smoke from the breatehr pipe) thought oh no gonna fail mot -then got the dreaded phonecall - rich ur cars failed on emmisons - shit I thought - phoned back 5 mins later - do u actually drive this car cause the exhausts full of soot - took the car up to max revs to blow out the syste now its passed -

still had to sort head gasket tho

might be an airlock in the cooling system, run some radiator flush through it, may help.

they said they tested and my head was gone. And had to send it off and wait 24hours for it to come back. Got a new water pump btw.

did they skim, or actually check the head for signs of cracking

i went to garage and had a new head gasket fitted. But my engine is still overheating i think and still gettin smoke out my exhuast. Is there a be all and end all way of testing it. For example a pressure test? Cos im thinking of goin to another garage gettin this test done to see.
