yeah on coil overs, but they bin on a while now and its only just started, pissing me off now! tried it on a suspension testing machine but car is too firm to be able to tell where noise is comming from! goin back to garage on wednesday so they shud be able to get a better look at it and fit my de-cat!

Broster are you on coilovers??
I had this noise since I fitted Spax RSX's to mine. Its gone now, went about 2weeks ago and hasent returned ;) My coilovers were close to the tyres but it wasnt them. I took it to about 5 garages (2 vaux) and got free checks on ramps but NONE of them could find owt wrong...
I had big suspicions that it was the topmount causing it but changed it and it still did it. Also their was some play in the coilover when fully extended (only slight and they are virtually brand new) but Vaux said its quite normal for them to do that when fully extended and especially because they are a much shorter unit than std.
Funny thing is I changed back to my old 1.2L brakes about two weeks ago, which is when the noise stopped... Still a mistery but until it comes back im not thinking about it...

thought as much, anyway just heard of garage it was sumink simple i have overlooked! didnt think to check for the wheels rubbing on the shocks! got some5mm spacers on it which solved the prob! was a few other little things that helped towards it, feel stupid now as it wassumink so stupid

garage cant find a prob with anything, and its a good garage, noise has stopped! would wheel bearing stop making noise if car was left for 6days stood?

hard to describe the noise, but i would say its like a rattley sound when your going quite fast, and when you go slower its like a 'thump thump' sound

ill have to take it to a garage as i have no facilities to do much work on my car here, used to be ok when i lived at home as i had a double garage to work in, tis annoyin here, only have a small pull in!

thats not to bad i guess, hope its just that then, exactly what noise would this make, if u can describe it?

J da Silva

i got the parts for £30 and did it myself, but if u take it to a garage then they'll charge u more obviously

not that much tbh, maybe 25 notes approx?

PaulW

front bearing are a bit more trickier than rear, as they need to use a press to get the bearing in place

say about £60-£80 parts&labour

broster

any idea on prices for these to be fixed?

J da Silva

posted on 7th Dec 03 at 12:33

just depends what is nackered, but if the noise gets more frequant as the rotation becomes quicker then i'd have thought it was wheel bearing

broster

posted on 7th Dec 03 at 12:33

nah it aint that mate, that makes a different noise to the noise im getting, had that on an old mk3 astra.

PaulW

could also be the little metal guard thing, its like a shield, behind the discs, could be catching

broster

kinda yeah, it got real bad, like from no noise to big noise in just a week, how much would that cost to fix, there would be play in the wheel if it was this tho surely?

J da Silva

maybe the wheel bearing? does it get more repetitive the faster u go?
